Tips & tricks
Is your firesteel not producing proper sparks? Take a closer look at your knife or scraper. If the edge is not sharp enough, the sparks will not fly properly. Always use the back of the knife or the included striker. Only use the blade of the knife in an emergency.
Want to create a real shower of sparks? Scrape a small “mountain” of material abrasion from the fire steel. Then strike the “mountain” with a spark using plenty of pressure and momentum, and you will be able to ignite even damp tinder.
The most important thing to remember: DO NOT give up! Keep at it, even if you don't succeed in starting a fire at first. Using a fire steel takes some practice, and here too, practice makes perfect.
