This edge-retaining 1.2003 carbon steel is designed for thin cutting edges and offers a very stable cutting edge. The dimensions of this cut are 4.7 mm thickness / 60 mm width / 710 mm length.

Technical data

  • Article: 1158-024
  • Analysis: C: 0.77 / Si: 0.35 / Mn: 0.69 / Cr: 0.37
  • Hardness: approx. 60 HRC after hardening
  • Color in Damascus steel: gray
  • Condition: soft-annealed and scale-free

Properties and applications

  • Used industrially to cut concrete.
  • Relatively easy to work and forgiving during hardening.
  • Recommended for sharpening level B.
  • Suitable for kitchen knives, hunting knives, bushcraft knives, machetes, choppers and fencing swords.
  • Also recommended for first self-made hunting knives, bushcraft knives, choppers and fencing swords.

Hardening

Hardening: 840° / tempering at 180°C for 1 hour = approx. 59-60 HRC.

Notes

The steel is soft-annealed and supplied to us in large plates (approx. 2 x 1 m). The plates are cut into strips 40 to 60 mm wide.

The cut strips may be slightly bent. They can be straightened over the knee, in a vise or with hammer and anvil. No increased hardening distortion is noticeable as a result.
